My teaching philosophy is simple; teach lessons about life students can take with them everywhere they go.  Lessons like confidence, setting goals, working hard, and achieving those goals not only pertain to percussion but also to many facets of my students' lives.


Marcus has been blessed with opportunities to work with many national artists and musicians.  He has worked with numerous national artists (including Grammy Award winners and nominees) in all genres such as Kevin Wooten, Anthony Hamilton, Elayna Boynton, Walter Hawkins, Kim Burrell, Maurette Brown Clark, Eddie Levert, Percy Sledge, Candi Staton, Ellis Marsalis, Eddie Spanky Alford, Ingrid Felts, Harvey Thompson, James D. Blair, Mac Davis, and Russell Smith.  


Marcus received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Music Education/Performance from Alabama A&M University in 2002 and opened Pope's School of Percussion in 2009.

Marcus has been credited on many projects such as Kelvin Wooten's "Windows"; JD Blair’s "2012?"; "The Waters/Felts Project"; Madison Mission’s "Soulful Christmas"; Tracy Hamlin’s "Better Days"; Russell Smith’s "The End Is Not In Sight"; James Bowman’s "My Perspective" and "She’s an Original"; Jolanda Green's "Sacred Serenade", and Sam Pope Jr.’s "His Sound" and "Hear Our Prayer".
